KALAKALAPU WAS A BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE IN THEATRES

BY, AISHWARYA THYAGARAJAN

Director Sundar C’s Kalakalappu which released a couple of weeks ago has just been declared a ‘hit’ film.  The film, produced with a medium budget, marked the return to directing films for Sundar C has to establish himself as a saleable actor during the past few years.

This was the 25th Film for Sundar C as a director. Kalakalappu starring Vimal, ‘Mirchi’ Siva, Anjali, Oviya and Santhanam was also.  The film has been lapped up by the masses as it provided them with an opportunity to laugh their hearts out for two-and-a-half years forgetting their mundane problems.  At last, it gave them a temporary reprieve from the sweltering heat, power-cut and many daily issues they have to contend with.

Sundar has made some memorable comedy films in the past like Ullathai Allithaa and Unakkaga Ellam Unakkaga besides making some serious stuff in the form of the Kamal-Madhavan starrer Anbae Sivam.  He also directed superstar Rajinikanth in the super-hit film Arunachalam. By the success of Kalakalappu, Sundar has announced that he would soon be making a sequel to the film starring the same stars.

Kalakalappu and Oru Kal Oru Kannadi have, in the past few months, not only done well in theatres but also have given boost to produces and directors that unbridled comedy is always a sell-out.   UTV Motion Pictures, which produced Kalakalappu, is all set to produce the sequel as well.  The untitled film would start rolling from September or October onwards.
