MGR AWARD TO LYRICIST VALI


Speakers led by P.R. Gokulakrishnan, former Chief Justice of Gujarat, paid rich tributes to the signal contribution made by former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M.G. Ramachandran for the growth of the Dravidian movement in Tamil Nadu.

Presiding over the MGR award distribution ceremony organised by MGR Kazhagam here on Thursday, Mr.Gokulakrishnan said MGR was a humane person and had won the hearts of the masses foe alleviating their sufferings.

A ‘ponnadai,’ a cash prize of Rs.25,000 each and a silver plaque was awarded to poet, Vaali and Villupattu Subbu Arumugam

DANCE MACHI DANCE OF JAYA TV CHANNEL

Malangai Group who are adjudged as the winner of the Dance Machi Dance of the Jaya TV Channel's are invited to participate international dance programme known as Dance Nooru Vagai. With the winners the other dancers were from Singapore, Malaysia, Mauritius and Sri Lanka. The Nooruvagai Dance will be telecast on all Wednesdays at 9.30 PM.

KALAKKA POVADHU YARU - CHAPTER IV IN VIJYAY TV CHANNEL

Vijay TV Channel's Kalakka Povadhu Yaaru Part IV will be aired from Friday 25th between 10 PM and 11 PM. More than 1000 persons from Trich, Madurai, Coimbatore and Thanjavur attended the personal interview in which only 60 have been selected. The winner will get a jackpot of Rs.5 lakhs and could be made as compere of the channel. They too will get chances to act in films too. Judges of the Kalakka Povadhu Yaaru are Uma Riyaz and actor Pandiarajan. Ramya and Karthiekyan compere the programme. The compere Karthikeyan was selected as the winner in Part III of the programme earlier held.

SHRANYA BHAGYARAJ MAKES ATTEMPT


Sharanya Bhagyaraj, budding actress and daughter of actor-director K Bhagyaraj, allegedly attempted suicide Tuesday night by consuming poison.

According to police, she has been admitted to a private hospital in Chennai and she is under observation.

.
Sharanya, whose mother Poornima was a top heroine in South Indian movies during the 80s, had made her debut in a Tamil movie 'Paarijatam', opposite Prithviraj, a top Malayalam actor.

A failed love affair is believed to be the reason behind her taking the extreme step.

ANIL AMBANI HAS SIGNED WITH MAMMOOTY

Anil Ambani is entering into Malayalam film industry for the first time with his newly launched Reliance Entertainment and has signed with Mammootty to produce a film. It is none other than Kutty Shranku, directed by Shaji N Karun.

As the director and hero have already fixed a date for its launch, the Reliance Entertainment has suddenly entered into this venture and shown willingness to produce this as their maiden venture in Malayalam. Mammootty is giving priority dates for the film, which will be shot in three schedules in and around Azhapuzha district of Kerala. There will be three heroines in the film, mostly from Bollywood including a Sri Lankan girl. As per the story Mammootty's character in the film will have three lady loves in the three islands he visits. The film will be made in Malayalam with English subtitles for international audience. Shaji would like to complete the film by July and hold its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September.

HOMAGE TO L V PRASAD

Producer, director and actor L.V.Prasad was a person with the principles of equality through his revolutionary ideas produced films with boldness, said the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi at the late director's 100th birth day fell recently.

The Chief Minister said, that the late L.V.Prasad started out his career as an ordinary person and with his tireless work he reached the pinnacles of the film industry. He recalled, that he wrote dialogues for three of Tamil films - Manohara, Iruvar Ullam, Thai Illa Pillai. The Chief Minister recalled that he charged only one rupee for writing his dialogues for the film Thai Illa Pillai. After accepting the offer from Karunanidhi, Prasad promised him that he would come and see him, with Rs.10,000 if the film ran for 100 days. On the 100th day, Karunanidhi saw that a car which reached his door step and from where L.V.Prasad was getting down. He hurriedly came to see Karunanidhi and gave him Rs.10,000 in currencies and told him that he had fulfilled his promise. Recalling the past, Karunanidhi said that he was the only one who alone maintained promises. He narrated another incident, in which another producer had promised him that he would be paid Rs.50,000 if the film ran for 100 days. Karunanidhi said, the producer had stopped the screening of the film on the 99th day from cine theaters.

Speaking about the dialogues which he wrote for the Thai Illa Pillai, he recalled that L.V.Prasad wanted to produce films showing the trend of principle of equality of all religions and castes. Karunanidhi said, that he achieved this through this film. He said the L.V.Prasad was a social reformer who had the courage to produce film like this in those days.

Kamal Hassan in his speech said, that he felt proud to participate in the function, because he had worked with the late director, Shivaji Ganesan and Kalaignar Karunanidhi. The actor recalled an incident. He said when he was travelling with the late producer in a car, he suddenly asked the driver to stop the car and showed a cine theater in which he worked as a ticket checker. Kamal recalled that he was the first man to produce various vernacular languages films in India. He also said that he was the first man to introduce various new techniques and Kamal said that he had set an example to him while he produced his own films, Kamal said.

KUMUDHAM BY GEETHALAYA

A new production company Geethalaya is going to produce a film Kumudam with all new faces like College Student Pradip Kumar, Seema, Yashika Saradha, Super Bell Mani and Roopa Chandran. Sundara Travels Thangaraj and Jaya Suriyakanth appear in good roles.

It is the story of a straight forward journalist who exposes the corrupted politicians. In the film Sulakshana appears as a Reporter for a Tamil weekly and dares all corrupted fellows. Two and half foot Rupa Chandran is the comedian of the film. The fighting scenes in the film are done in a strange way, perhaps it is new one in the history of Tamil cinema. Story and Screen Play of the film are written by Sathya. The film is produced and directed by V.S.Bhaskaran. Totally the film has place for comedy, love and sentiments. It is likely to be released in April on the Tamil New Year’s Day.

CM FELICITATES MANORAMA

Tamil film Comedian Manorama who has completed her fifty-years career in Tamil films was felicitated at a function held in recently.Besides, Tamil she had acted in other Indian vernaculars films. She has received a doctorate from the Annai Sathya Bama University. She recently received her doctorate from an American university for her outstanding performance in more than 1500 films and the actress has made a record in the Guinness Book of Records.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi in his address has said that he knew the actress quite a long time and she undertook the sorrows and happiness of his families on various occasions. He said, when he was admitted in the Chennai General Hospital due to an accident in the year 1967 while he was returning from Thanjavur, the comedian and her mother who came to see him saw a woman was weeping behind his bed. When queried about the woman, the CM wife Dayalu Ammal told her, that Karunanidhi secretly married the woman who was weeping beside him. She is known as Rasathi Ammal. The secret of the marriage was known only to very few of the CM's family members till then, had become open secret to all after Dayalu Karunanidhi broke her silence. The CM recalled, that his family was open to the actress Manorama as all they considered her as their own family member. The CM praised the actress to live long and wished her many more celebrations like this.

Director K.Balachander that there was none after the comedian in the Asian continent. Rajinikanth in his speech has said, that she was the first woman to receive him when he came to the cine field for acting. The actor recalled that he had acted in the film Kuppathu Raja. He wished the comedian all success in her life.

Kamal said that there were many as his mother took him on their laps and the comedian Manorama was the one on whose lap Kamal was taken care. The actor praised the comedian's love, care, affection and helping tendencies to others would always be cherished for many more years to come. He said, that he was ready at any time to participate in any of the functions in future that might take place in future for the comedian.

Accepting the wishes of all, the comedian who was in her emotional speech said that she was very fortunate to receive such benediction from various persons. She said that she was fortunate to receive the honour from the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi who had been associated with her quite a long time. She said she had acted in the drama Manimagudam written by Kalaignar Karunanidhi. She thanked to all those who participated in the function.

KRG PRODUCES A NEW FILM

After a long respite KRG is going to produce a film with Madhavan and Nayantara. KRG who has been observing silence for the last many years without talking much about producing films, suddenly announced his decision to produce the film recently. The film is to be directed by Selva.

DASAVADHARAM RELEASE ON APRIL 10TH

The release date of the much awaited Dasavatharam movie of Kamal Hassan has been confirmed to April 10th, just before the Tamil new year day. The film will release in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi simultaneously with the current buzz being that the total prints would be around 1000.

Confirming this ‘Oscar’ Ravichandran the producer and distributor of the movie says that they are planning on banking on the holiday season during the April-May season. The audio of Dashavatharam with music by Himmesh Reshamiah will hit the stand by the end of February.

Kamal Haasan plays 10 different roles in this film and for which he has dubbed in 10 different voices. Apart from this Kamal has penned the story, screenplay and dialogues himself. Asin has given her own voice to her character and that too in typical Brahmin Tamil which has come out brilliantly. Mallika Sherawat too dons a prominent character
