KALYANAM A NEW MEGA SOAP IN SUN TV

With 'Aanandam', a five-year-long mega serial on Sun TV, coming to an end, Sathya Jyothi Films' next serial 'Kalyanam' is all set to glue the audience to television sets on the same prime slot.

After the successful serial Lakshmi, actress Meena is playing the lead role. "It's not a regular soap opera, not the usual stuff like heroine facing a lot of troubles. I come in casuals and my character name is Meera," informs Meena.

The promo of the serial is already on air and it has created a lot of expectations among serial buffs.

Meena says, in the serial she works in the media, and the character she portrays is unique and something she has never done before."I've already done a movie with Sathya Jyothi Films and I know them well. My first serial 'Lakshmi' got a good response. Wherever I went, people questioned like why the serial ended so soon. I got more offers after the serial," said Meena, who hosted a game show on Jaya TV before Lakshmi serial.

"I was not sure whether I could do serials, because people usually have a feeling that if you go to the small screen your market will go down, but it was not so. I was totally wrong," says Meena, who is at present shooting for a song in Australia for 'Mariyadhai' starring Vijaykanth.

"Apart from Mariyadhai, I’m doing a Telugu and Malayalam movie. I might host a who if some interesting game shows happen," says the actress.

While the serial name is 'Kalyanam', when is Meena going to get married? "When I heard the serial title I also felt that everybody will ask me this question. It will happen by the year-end and I'm telling this for quite a while,” she laughs.

"People are used to this time slot and I’m very happy about my character and things are turning out well in the serial," adds Meena.

While 'Pattukottai' handles story, screenplay and direction, Vidudhalai is directing the serial. The title song is sung by Chinna Kuyil Chitra.

The cast includes Yuvarani, Delhi Kumar, Sakshi Siva, Shanthi Williams, Brinda Das, Rajkanth, Sindhu, Rajkamal among others. "The serial has got a different opening and entirely a new approach. The story starts with the owner of a Kalyana Mandapam Delhi Kumar's family and the subsequent entry of Meena" says the director.

Starting today, the serial is on air from Monday to Friday at 7.30 pm on Sun TV.

The actor who was honoured at the Kannada Film Industry's platinum jubilee celebrations further appealed politicians not to mingle their politics with art. He said that people of Karnataka and Tamil Nadur like brothers and any problem between them could be sorted out without the interference of the politics. Kamal was addressing his inaugural speech on Sunday evening in Bangalore. He recalled that Karnataka had given super films stars like Rajinikanth.

Supporting the views of Kamal Hassan, actor Vishnuvardhan said that he really liked the speeches of the actor and also appealed that the artistes should be always away from politics. He also praised that Kamal Hassan had a lot of supporters in the State.

Actor Ramesh Aravind, translated Kamal's speech in the Kannada language and for each and every verse of Kamal's translation had a wonderful appalause.

INDIRA VIZHA IS NOT HOLLYWOOD 'DISCLOSURE'

Director Rajeshwar, who has completed the shoot and dubbing for his film, Indira Vizha, starring Srikanth, Namitha and debutant Hemamalini, has clarified that his movie is original and not an adaptation of the Hollywood flick Disclosure or its Hindi adaptation Aitraaz.
The movie’s story, however, bears a striking resemblance to Disclosure and centres on Srikanth, an employee of a TV channel, whose boss turns out to be Namitha, his ex girl friend.
“Only the plot may sound similar. We have treated it completely differently,” says the director, whose movie is expected to be a March release.
